Deep Tissue Massage
This is our deep tissue Thai massage, which is excellent for relaxing and loosening tight muscles, tissues and stiff joints where deeper work is required. Your massage therapist will slowly and carefully introduce pressure, making sure that your muscles are warmed up with deep pressure only being applied where it's needed.
We use the same acupressure points and movements as with our regular Thai massage therapy, but the movement is slower and the pressure is deeper and concentrated on areas of tension and pain. Your massage therapist will use her forearms, elbows and knuckles as well as her fingers and body weight to apply a deeper pressure. By applying a sequence of slow, deliberate and focused movements, your therapist relaxes constricted areas of muscle.
Our deep tissue massage can provide effective relief for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, lower back tightness, and sore shoulders. It's also great for easing other muscle pains, spasm and tightness. Not only should you experience improved circulation, balance, posture and flexibility, the relaxation that results should also help improve the quality of your sleep.
Note that it is quite normal to feel a little muscle soreness after a deep tissue massage. That's because the tissues have been manipulated to break down and ease adhesions, knots and contractions. Muscle groups and tissue can sometimes need firm pressure during a massage to coax them back into a relaxed, untwisted state. Just like with an intense workout, the exercised tissues can feel a deep, "burning" soreness afterwards. However, a massage should not be excruciating! Your therapist will talk to you to ensure you're getting the right amount of pressure.
Important: many guests ask their therapist to use a pressure that is much harder than is actually required. The objective of a deep tissue massage is to use sufficient pressure to work the deeper muscle fibres. It is easy to over-estimate how much pressure this needs, especially when you're enjoying the sensation and the endorphins are flowing. However, if you overdo it, you may regret it later and you risk injury. Please listen to your therapist: they are trained and experienced.
We use a little unscented oil to enhance your massage experience. At the end of your massage, your therapist will use a hot towel to wipe you down and remove any excess oil. We do not have an oil-free option for this massage, but if you have an allergy to our usual grape-seed oil, please let us know and we'll offer you an alternative.
This massage is a full body massage and we recommend allowing at least 60 minutes. However, a shorter 45 minute session is possible.
